Good and useful, but you will need to expand the method with your imaginatio

I bought the 2004 edition of What color is your parachute? and have been using it several time ever since, as I am kind of looking for my deeper vocation, and this is evolutive. This time, I just about completed the exercises.The method will be useful to people needed to take a step back on their vocation and professional experience. It is well-structured, and relies on extensive lists and research, most compiled from other renowned sources.I did a few adaptations to the method, which I find a bit narrow-minded, sometimes. My first critique is about the ranking method used all-over the book (if this has changed in later editions, please tell-me), which is based on pair-wise comparaison. As number theories shows, and often common sense, this pair-wise method doesn't always amount to the good list. For me, it didn't work well for skills, and especially values and goals. Having a systemic perspective, I prefer to put in parallel in a list of 6-12 concepts two series of concepts (skills or values for example) that are related and complementary to me, rather than having to choose between things that are not exclusive but complementary to me. Fusion of concepts is another adaptation. Last, it would be good to open certain lists with other perspectives (in purpose, goals, working environment, etc.). The author is a traditional Christian, and you can feel it in some of his remarks and points of method, but it shouldn't bother people from other confessions.If you are a true (social or conventional) entrepreneur or creative, you may be limited by this book. But it is a good start.

Pratique et nécessaire

Lecture pragmatique avec à la clef de bons exercices. Le facteur temps est toujours nécessaire pour mettre en oeuvre les conseils prodigués, mais à chacun d'y consacrer le temps qu'il souhaite.Certains passages sont un tant soit peu fastidieux à lire, quoi qu'il en soit, une fois la lecture terminée, il est facile d'accéder aux chapitres qui nous ont le plus plu.Bonne lecture et bonne mise en pratique!

Un livre qui gagnerait à être connu du public français (anglophone) mais qui n'est pas traduit chez nous. Dommage. pour dépoussiérer sa recherche d'emploi, il est très instructif.
